Leonard seeking fourth win in Texas

Nike golfer Justin Leonard could become the first player to win the Valero Texas Open four times in San Antonio this week.

The Dallas-born Ryder Cup star will look to add to his victories in 2000, 2001 and 2007 when the PGA Tour Fall Series event gets underway at La Cantera on Thursday.

Described as a candidate for "comeback player of the year" by the PGA Tour website, Leonard has recovered from a loss of form to enjoy a successful season.

Since changing swing coach from Butch Harmon to Randy Smith, enlisting the services of sports psychologist Richard Coop and getting a new caddie, the 36-year-old has won the Stanford St Jude Championship and played a key role in the US Ryder Cup victory at Valhalla last month.

Leonard now sits tenth in the PGA Tour money list and could improve his position with another win at the Valero Texas Open, although he will have to compete against a strong field containing eight past Major winners.

Among them are 2006 Masters champion Zach Johnson, winner of The Open in 2001 David Duval and Davis Love III, who triumphed at the US PGA Championship in 1997.
