As the upcoming US election continues to dominate headlines on both sides of the Atlantic, South African golf legend Gary Player has earmarked Nike''s Tiger Woods as a potential future world leader.
Speaking at a promotional event for his Gary Player Invitational tournament, the 72-year-old suggested that Woods could one day inhabit the White House, according to South African newspaper the Times.
"He is the most well-known athlete in the world and by the time his career is over he''ll be one of the most recognisable men on Earth," Player said of the current world number one.
"If Ronald Reagan could become president then so could Tiger," he added.
Dismissing claims that the idea of Woods becoming president of the US was "far-fetched", the nine-time Major winner described him as "a great role model".
Known for his outspoken nature, Player sparked controversy in the build-up to the Open Championship last year, when he claimed that drug abuse was rife among professional golfers.
