Allenby beaten by rookie Johnson at Turning Stone

A hesitant putting display saw Srixon golfer Robert Allenby miss out on the Turning Stone Resort Championship title in New York State on Sunday.

Several missed putts from the Australian allowed 24-year-old American rookie Dustin Johnson to claim his maiden PGA Tour title, birdying the last two holes to finish nine under par.

Johnson''s final round of 69 put him one stroke ahead of Allenby, who closed with a 70, while a group of six players including Titleist''s Ryuji Imada, Cleveland player Woody Austin and Davis Love III finished a further shot behind on seven under.

Englishman Brian Davis was the highest placed European, finishing tied for 15th after a final round of 74.

Allenby, who was looking for his first Tour victory since 2001, lamented the inconsistency of his short game afterwards, as well as revealing an unusual solution for the putting jitters.

"I know it''s the same for everyone, but I just lost my nerve yesterday with the putter," the 37-year-old said.

He added: "I took the putter home last night and slept with it, handcuffed it to the bed and handcuffed me to the other side of it."
