A birdie at the first extra hole saw Titleist golfer Robert Karlsson win the Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland yesterday.
The Swede beat Ross Fisher and Martin Kaymer in a playoff at St Andrews to clinch the £432,970 first prize, which allows him to replace Padraig Harrington at the top of the European Tour''s Order of Merit.
However, Karlsson later rejected comparisons between his season and that of his Ryder Cup team-mate, despite having now recorded 11 top-ten finishes in European events this year.
"My season does not compare to Padraig''s with his two Majors," the 39-year-old said.
"There is not much doubt about who is the best player this year."
Harrington failed to find his Major-winning form on the Old Course, starting the day just two shots off the lead but closing with a 71 to finish five under par.
Karlsson - now more than £100,000 clear at the top of the Order of Merit with four events to play - and Fisher both carded 65s to finish ten under, while Kaymer joined the playoff after closing with a 68.
