Daly considering European switch

The European Tour could feature one of golf''s most recognisable players next year, it has emerged.

John Daly, US PGA champion in 1991 and Open Championship winner in 1995, has revealed he is considering competing in Europe in 2009.

The golfer known as Wild Thing has endured a lean spell on the PGA Tour, having failed to record a top-ten finish in the past three years.

He is increasingly becoming better known for his torrid private life and off-course antics rather than his Major victories.

Daly is now keen to revive his golf career and believes heading over the Atlantic will offer him the chance to do just that, although he acknowledged that it will not be easy.

"I know in Europe there are still a million opportunities to play. It''s a great tour. Guys on that tour have shown themselves and proved themselves to be great players," the 42-year-old told the Associated Press.

Should Daly make the switch he is unlikely to come up against his rival Costantino Rocca, as the man he beat in the 1995 Open Championship playoff is now plying his trade on the European Seniors Tour.ADNFCR-1571-ID-18810189-ADNFCR
