Members of European Ryder Cup sides past and present have recommended Jose Maria Olazabal for the role of captain at Celtic Manor in two years'' time.
The 42-year-old Spaniard served as vice captain to Nick Faldo at Valhalla last week, when the European side failed to triumph in the biennial competition for the first time since 1999.
With the US now in the ascendancy, Darren Clarke suggested that Olazabal''s leadership could inspire Europe to regain the trophy when the Ryder Cup heads to Wales in 2010.
"Jose Maria would be at the forefront of everyone''s thoughts for Celtic Manor. A lot of guys would like to see him as the next captain," the Northern Irish player said.
Clarke was controversially overlooked as a wildcard choice for this year''s event, with Faldo instead opting for Ian Poulter and Paul Casey as his two captain''s picks.
Meanwhile, a player who did make Faldo''s side has also backed Olazabal to be Europe''s skipper in 2010. Callaway golfer Oliver Wilson told Sky Sports this week that the two-time Masters champion would be an "ideal captain" for the event at Celtic Manor.
