Jimenez looking forward to Valhalla

Srixon golfer Miguel Angel Jimenez believes that his experience can be a valuable asset to the European Ryder Cup side this month.

At 44, the Spaniard will be the oldest player on Nick Faldo''s team and is likely to emerge as a natural leader at Valhalla, where Europe are aiming for their fourth straight victory in the biennial competition.

However, Jimenez is keen to play as much golf as he can in Kentucky, as well as offering advice to his younger team-mates.

"I will be doing everything I can to help the four rookies," the Malaga-born player said.

He added: "I feel I am strong enough and if my golf is good enough on the week, I''m fit enough and I have the energy, then I could play all the five matches."

Vice captain to Seve Ballesteros for the 1997 Ryder Cup at Valderrama, Jimenez played on the team in 1999 and 2004.

After a three-week break, he is taking part in the Omega European Masters at Crans-sur-Sierre in Switzerland this week.
