Lee Westwood has withdrawn from this week''s Omega European Masters due to a bout of tonsillitis.
The Ping golfer was due to play in Crans-sur-Sierre in preparation for the Ryder Cup later this month, but was forced to pull out after being struck down by the illness.
Westwood''s absence means that Srixon player Miguel Angel Jimenez will be the only member of the European Ryder Cup team to tee off in Switzerland tomorrow.
The Spaniard, currently ranked 18th in the world, is also the only golfer from the top 50 who will be contesting the European Tour event, with many players heading to St Louis this week for the third FedEx Cup playoff.
Darren Clarke had been expected to appear at the European Masters but is now taking a break after failing to earn a Ryder Cup wildcard from Nick Faldo.
The European captain is one of the former champions at Crans-sur-Sierre, having claimed the title in 1983. Last year''s event was won by Australian Brett Rumford.
