Woods 'will be involved' in Ryder Cup

Nike golfer Tiger Woods will have a part to play in the Ryder Cup later this month, despite being unable to pick up a golf club.

Paul Azinger said yesterday that he will be taking advice from the world number one, who is still recovering from knee surgery, when his American side take on the Europeans at Valhalla on September 19th.

Speaking at a press conference in New York, the US captain revealed that he plans to have an "open phone line" to Woods during the eagerly-anticipated team showdown in Kentucky.

"He''s really intelligent and has a great golf mind so I''m looking forward to talking to Tiger," Azinger stated.

"I can call any time I want. I have a good relationship with Tiger."

Azinger also announced his wildcard picks for the Ryder Cup yesterday, with Steve Stricker, Chad Campbell, JB Holmes and Hunter Mahan all receiving a call-up.

In related news, Woods revealed this week that his wife Elin is expecting the couple''s second child. Their daughter, Sam Alexis, was born in June 2007.
