Ping golfer Lee Westwood raged about the condition of the greens at Gleneagles after his opening round yesterday.
The 35-year-old from Worksop carded a one-under-par 72 on day one of the Johnnie Walker Championship, but a four-putt double bogey at the fifth hole led him to brand the famous Perthshire course''s greens "awful".
With Gleneagles due to host the Ryder Cup in 2014, Westwood claimed that the greens should be dug up and completely re-laid.
"I''m not a bad putter and I can''t remember the last time I three-putted from 18 inches," he said.
"You can''t bring the Ryder Cup onto greens like this. Hopefully they will rip them up and re-do them."
Westwood is currently third in the world points list and has already secured his place in the European team for this year''s Ryder Cup.
His comments at Gleneagles follow a series of criticisms at the US PGA Championship earlier this month, when he blasted organisers for brushing the rough back towards the tees at Oakland Hills.
