Poulter "disgusted" with Ryder Cup rumours

Cobra golfer Ian Poulter has reacted furiously to suggestions that Nick Faldo has already assured him of a place on the Ryder Cup team.

The 32-year-old''s decision to skip Gleneagles this week and play at the Deutsche Bank Championship instead led to claims that he had been ''given the nod'' by the European captain.

Much has been made of Poulter''s seemingly close relationship with Faldo, but the Hertfordshire player yesterday dismissed the Ryder Cup rumours as "pathetic".

He stated: "I''m disgusted that people, players, media would think that Nick Faldo would be that unprofessional.

"I know for a fact that I haven''t been given the nod."

Poulter also said that he believes his form this year has been good enough to warrant a wildcard entry. Although he has not won a title, the Hitchin-born player has shown consistency and finished second to Padraig Harrington at The Open in July.

Faldo is due to announce his wildcard choices after the Johnnie Walker Championship on Sunday evening.
