Poulter not certain of wildcard, says Casey

Nike golfer Paul Casey has dismissed claims that Cobra''s Ian Poulter has already been assured of a place in the European Ryder Cup side.

Following Poulter''s decision to travel to the US for this week''s FedEx Cup event instead of playing in the Johnnie Walker Championship, it was suggested that the 32-year-old has already been told to expect a wildcard pick by team captain Nick Faldo.

Speaking at Gleneagles earlier this week, Callaway golfer Nick Dougherty said he believes Poulter has been "given the nod" by Faldo, but Casey disagreed when asked about the situation yesterday.

He stated: "I''ve spoken to Ian and I don''t buy that comment.

"I''ve heard nothing from Nick. I have not been given any indication which direction he''s going with his picks."

Casey is hoping to be one of the captain''s wildcard choices, but faces competition from Poulter, Darren Clarke and Colin Montgomerie, while Dougherty is still able to qualify for the Ryder Cup automatically.
