Singh clinches Barclays win after playoff

Cleveland golfer Vijay Singh emerged victorious from a three-way playoff with TaylorMade''s Sergio Garcia and Ping''s Kevin Sutherland at The Barclays on Sunday.

All three players finished eight under par after four rounds at the opening FedEx Cup playoff event in New Jersey, but Singh took first prize with a birdie at the second extra hole.

The win represents the Fijian''s second title of the year, as he also came out on top at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in Ohio earlier this month.

In contrast, it was a case of more disappointment for Garcia, with the Spaniard again missing out after finishing as runner-up to Padraig Harrington at the US PGA Championship recently.

However, the 28-year-old refused to be despondent about his finish at The Barclays.

"I think the most important thing about it is that I keep putting myself in a good position … unfortunately somebody just seems to be able to come up with some spectacular playing when I''m out there on top," he said.

Nike golfer Paul Casey closed with a 72 in New Jersey to share seventh place on six under par.
