Titleist golfer Robert Karlsson is unlikely to play again until the week before the Ryder Cup due to a neck injury.
In an announcement that is sure to concern European captain Nick Faldo, the Swede''s manager John Elliot has confirmed that he is taking a break from golf to undergo treatment on the problem.
Currently fifth in the world points list, Karlsson has been one of Europe''s most consistent players this season, with top-ten finishes at the Masters, US Open and the Open Championship.
"His physio has told him not to risk further damage by playing," Elliot explained.
"We hope it is not serious, but he has decided not to play the Omega Masters in Switzerland as a precaution," he added.
Karlsson is hoping to be fit to return at the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Germany, which begins a week before the Ryder Cup on September 11th.
