Clarke boosts wildcard bid with Dutch victory

Darren Clarke saw his chances of being selected for next month''s Ryder Cup improve with victory at the KLM Open in Zandvoort on Sunday.

Taking a three-shot lead into the final day, the Northern Irishman eventually finished 16 under par - four strokes ahead of runner-up Paul McGinley - to seal his second European Tour title of 2008.

Although Clarke is unable to qualify automatically, the impressive display in Holland will strengthen his bid to receive one of captain Nick Faldo''s two wildcard picks.

"I had two weeks to try to impress Nick. The first is out of the way and I seem to have done that," the 40-year-old said afterwards.

Clarke will now head to Gleneagles for this week''s Johnnie Walker Championship, with Faldo due to announce his selections after the event in Scotland.

Srixon golfer Henrik Stenson finished third at the KLM Open after carding a final-round 68. The Swede''s consistent form this season has already secured him a place in the Ryder Cup side.
