Garcia must improve putting, says Nicklaus

Taylormade''s Sergio Garcia will need to improve his short game to win a Major championship, golf legend Jack Nicklaus has claimed.

Speaking at the opening of a new golf course in Idaho last week, the 18-time Major winner described Garcia as "very, very talented", before offering a reason for the Spaniard''s recent failure at the US PGA Championship.

Garcia lost out to Wilson golfer Padraig Harrington at the final Major of the year after several putts went astray on the back nine, a problem which Nicklaus believes he must solve in order to reach the next level as a player, Golf.com reports.

The 68-year-old said that putting currently appears to be Garcia''s "nemesis" on the golf course, but suggested that he could become a truly great player by making changes to his short game.

"When you''re a really good putter like Harrington is, you can make up for some errant shots," Nicklaus explained.

Garcia finished tied for second with Titleist''s Ben Curtis at the US PGA, two strokes behind Harrington. He was also beaten by the Irishman in a playoff for the 2007 Open Championship at Carnoustie.
