Els looking forward to Barclays Classic

Callaway golfer Ernie Els is hoping to end his year on a high by playing well in the FedEx Cup events.

Writing on his website, the 38-year-old South African said that he still has "an awful lot to play for in 2008", despite the Majors being over for another year and his non-involvement in next month''s Ryder Cup.

On Thursday, New Jersey''s Ridgewood Country Club hosts the Barclays Classic -the first of the four FedEx Cup playoffs which bring the curtain down on the PGA Tour season.

Els recently enjoyed a short break following the US PGA Championship and revealed that time away from the golf course has left him eager to begin his FedEx Cup campaign.

"I feel refreshed after my week off with the family and hopefully I can make a good, solid start in this season''s FedEx Cup race," he said.

"You know, it’d be nice to have a decent run at this thing."

Els'' only win on the Tour this season came at the Honda Classic in March, when he beat Mizuno golfer Luke Donald by one stroke.
