Snooker star takes inspiration from Harrington

The recent exploits of Wilson golfer Padraig Harrington have inspired Ken Doherty to improve his performance on the snooker table, it has emerged.

Like Harrington, Doherty hails from Dublin and the former world champion revealed that he was excited by his compatriot''s recent wins at The Open and US PGA Championship.

Speaking to Setanta Sports, Doherty described the golfer as "Ireland''s greatest ever sportsman" and said that his display at Royal Birkdale to win The Open in July was "just inspirational".

The 38-year-old added: "Padraig has done Ireland so proud again - it''s great what he''s done in the past month."

Doherty recently dropped out of the top 16 rankings for the first time since 1992 and said that Harrington''s success will help him to regain his place among snooker''s elite.

With victory at the US PGA, Harrington became the first player to win back-to-back Majors since Nike''s Tiger Woods in 2006.

He recently confirmed that he will take part in all four FedEx Cup playoff events, starting with this week''s Barclays Classic in New Jersey.
