Yonex golfer Colin Montgomerie has said that he is still keen to play in the Ryder Cup, despite choosing not to enter two tournaments this month.
After missing the cut at the US PGA Championship, Montgomerie decided to take a two-week break from competitive golf, ruling out appearances at the SAS Masters and this week''s KLM Open in the Netherlands.
However, the 45-year-old Scotsman explained that he is concentrating on the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles later this month, where he hopes a good performance will persuade European captain Nick Faldo to offer him a wildcard pick for the Ryder Cup.
"I thought it very important to put in some serious practice time so I am ready to perform to the best of my ability should I come into the reckoning for a captain''s selection," Montgomerie told his official website.
"My desire to play in the Ryder Cup is greater than ever - as I have shown in the past and in my schedule which has been geared towards qualifying," he added.
The Johnnie Walker Championship, which takes place at the Perthshire course from August 28th, is the final event at which players can win points in the Ryder Cup standings.
