Rose heads back to Europe

Taylormade golfer Justin Rose will return to the European Tour in an attempt to secure his spot in the Ryder Cup team for September.

After finishing tied for ninth at the US PGA Championship last week, Rose moved up to seventh in the European points list but knows that competition for a place in the side remains fierce.

With three weeks of the qualifying period remaining, the 28-year-old will enter next week''s Dutch Open and the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles in search of more points.

"My plan was to play the FedEx Cup, but I don''t know if I''ve earned quite enough points to be safe, so I''ll go back and play some more," Rose explained.

The Johannesburg-born player could potentially miss out on a £5 million payday by not taking part in the FedEx Cup events.

With his best chance of automatic qualification coming from the world point list, Paul Casey has announced that he will remain in the US for the FedEx Cup.

The Nike golfer hit a final round of 69 to finish joint 15th at the US PGA Championship.
