Mickelson to work on short game after Major disappointment

Callaway golfer Phil Mickelson will spend time practicing his putting ahead of next month''s Ryder Cup.

Finishing tied for seventh on four over par at the US PGA Championship yesterday, the world number two has failed to win a Major tournament for the second year running – his last victory came at the 2006 Masters.

Speaking after his final round of 70 at Oakland Hills, Mickelson revealed that he is generally happy with his golf but feels that there is room for improvement in his short game.

The 38-year-old Californian said: "I would have liked to obviously play better but I had a good week.

"I let a lot of shots slide around the greens this week, so I''ll spend time trying to get that dialled in."

In the absence of Tiger Woods, Mickelson will be the highest ranked player in Paul Azinger''s team for the Ryder Cup, which begins at Valhalla on September 19th.
