'Hungover' Harrington wins US PGA

A final round of 66 saw Wilson golfer Padraig Harrington follow his recent Open triumph with victory at the US PGA Championship yesterday.

The Irishman, who claimed last week that he was still suffering from a "hangover" after his win at Royal Birkdale, finished two shots ahead of Taylormade''s Sergio Garcia and Titleist player Ben Curtis at Oakland Hills.

Both Harrington and Garcia started the final round three shots behind 2003 Open champion Curtis, but picked up shots to move ahead of the American and set up an absorbing battle on the back nine.

In scenes reminiscent of his victory over the Spaniard at Carnoustie last year, Harrington eventually won the battle of wills, with Garcia finding the water with his second shot at the 16th.

The 36-year-old Dubliner holed an 18-foot putt at the final hole to become the first European to win the US PGA since Scottish-born Tommy Armour in 1930.

Harrington is also the first player to win back-to-back Majors since Nike golfer Tiger Woods in 2006.
