Mizuno golfer Luke Donald could miss the rest of the season if he decides to go ahead with surgery on his injured wrist.
The 30-year-old Englishman, who has been out of action since withdrawing from the final round of the US Open in June, admitted that an operation would mean he is unlikely to play golf again this year.
Donald has been undergoing intensive rehabilitation therapy on his left wrist but feels that surgery will be required if the injury does not begin to show signs of improvement.
He said that choosing to have an operation would be "one of the biggest decisions of my career", particularly as he still holds slim hopes of making Nick Faldo''s Ryder Cup team next month.
"The Cup only comes around every two years and at this point it doesn''t look good for me," the Hertfordshire-born player admitted.
Donald has featured in Europe''s last two Ryder Cup sides but his inclusion as one of the wildcards for this year''s competition now seems unlikely.
Faldo will use just two captain''s picks to complete his team, with Taylormade''s Sergio Garcia, Nike golfer Paul Casey and Yonex player Colin Montgomerie all currently outside the automatic qualifying spots.
