US captain Paul Azinger has admitted that his team face a daunting task in beating Europe at next month''s Ryder Cup.
Speaking on the eve of the US PGA Championship in Michigan, Azinger said that Nick Faldo''s team are "in an advantageous place" ahead of the biennial team competition, particularly now that Nike golfer Tiger Woods has been ruled out for the Americans.
Without the world number one, Azinger knows that the European side are clear favourites to win their fourth successive Ryder Cup at Valhalla in September.
He said: "When I look down the Europe team that is a scary list for me.
"In order to beat those guys, we are going to have to do something special."
Azinger also revealed that there may still be a place in his team for Ping golfer Hunter Mahan, after the 26-year-old apologised for his recent attack on the Ryder Cup.
The US PGA takes place at Oakland Hills near Detroit this week. The course hosted the Ryder Cup in 2004, when Bernhard Langer led Europe to victory over Hal Sutton''s American side.
