Paul Casey''s performance at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational last week saw the Nike golfer move up four places to 15th in the European Ryder Cup points list.
Finishing four shots adrift of winner Vijay Singh in joint eighth, Casey carded an impressive final round of 65 at Firestone and his display is unlikely to have escaped the attention of Nick Faldo.
The captain will be aware that Casey''s powerful style is suited to matchplay golf and, as a member of the last two European teams, he has the experience to steady the youthful exuberance of players such as Oliver Wilson and Martin Kaymer.
Speaking about his improved performance in Ohio last week, the 31-year-old said: "I''ve been striking it quite well for some time now, but the putting has been letting me down.
"I''d love to be a part of the Ryder Cup team, but I''ve got some playing to do before we get there."
Ping golfer Lee Westwood''s joint-second finish at Firestone saw him replace Wilson''s Padraig Harrington at the top of the European points list, although there was no change in personnel in the top ten.
