Parker McLachlin claimed his maiden PGA Tour victory in Nevada yesterday, despite carding a two-over-par final round of 74.
Finishing seven strokes ahead of John Rollins and Englishman Brian Davis, McLachlin described winning the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open as a "huge stepping stone".
Currently in his second season on the PGA Tour, the 29-year-old equalled the course record at the Montreux Golf & Country Club on Friday, when he shot a ten-under-par 62.
McLachlin said of his victory: "It feels like it has been a lifetime coming. It has been a dream of mine since I was about 12."
As well as a cheque for $540,000 (£274,239), the win ensures McLachlin a place at the PGA Championship later this week, although he later revealed in a press conference that he might not play at Oakland Hills.
Michelle Wie again failed to make the cut in Nevada after struggling to an eight-over-par 80 in Friday''s second round. The 18-year-old has now taken part in eight PGA Tour events without surviving the first two days.
