Overnight leader Eduardo Romero clinched the US Senior Open title with a final round of 73 at Colorado Springs yesterday.
The 54-year-old Argentinian was three shots ahead going into the last day and extended his advantage to four, with Fred Funk taking second place after a triple bogey at the 13th hole saw the American finish with a 75.
Romero described the victory as the best moment of his career - he is only the second player from Argentina to win the trophy, after Roberto De Vicenzo''s success at Winged Foot in 1980.
"Man, I''m so happy, so happy," the Cordoba-born golfer said afterwards.
He added: "I won nine tournaments in Europe and 85 tournaments in South America but this is the most important tournament, of course."
Ireland''s Mark McNulty closed with a 68 to finish in third place on one under par, while Greg Norman continued his recent run of form to take fourth, after finishing on level-par.
