Michelle Wie''s decision to miss the British Women''s Open at Sunningdale this week has been questioned by several of her fellow professionals.
The 18-year-old Hawaiian is set to play in a US PGA Tour event instead of the LPGA Major, prompting critical comments from top female players such as Helen Alfredsson and Annika Sorenstam.
Alfredsson, who won the Evian Masters last week, urged Wie to recognise that "the exhibition time for her is over" and suggested that the youngster is being led astray by her parents, who continue to manage her.
"I think, if she wants to be a golfer, she should really concentrate on being on the women''s tour and dealing with them and learning to win," the 43-year-old Swede added.
Her compatriot Sorenstam voiced similar views, questioning Wie''s continuing interest in competing against men despite clearly struggling on the LPGA Tour.
Wie was disqualified from the State Farm Classic earlier this month after failing to sign her second-round scorecard. She will be making her eighth appearance at a PGA Tour event by taking part in the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open, which starts tomorrow.
