Norman says 'no thanks' to Oakland Hills

Greg Norman has turned down an invitation to play in the US PGA Championship next week.

The 53-year-old Australian was asked to take part in the final Major tournament of the year following his impressive display at The Open, where he eventually finished joint-third after leading for the first three rounds.

A rejuvenated Norman also tied for fifth in the Senior Open at Royal Troon last week and had hinted that he would take up the PGA''s offer to play at Oakland Hills in Michigan.

However, he has now confirmed that he intends to decline the invitation due to "professional and personal commitments" made before The Open at Royal Birkdale.

"I wish the PGA and Oakland Hills all the very best for what I''m sure will be a great week for golf," Norman stated.

Defending champion Tiger Woods and Mizuno golfer Luke Donald are two other high-profile players set to miss the tournament, which begins on Thursday August 7th.

Nike golfer Woods is out for the season due to knee surgery, while Donald is still struggling with a wrist injury sustained at the US Open in June.
