Woosnam admits to back pain struggle

Ian Woosnam has revealed that he struggling with back problems ahead of this week''s Senior Open Championship at Royal Troon.

The veteran Welshman currently leads the European Senior Order of Merit following two wins on the tour this year, but described the physical demands of playing 18 holes of golf as "hard work".

Speaking during a press conference at the Ayrshire resort, Woosnam said: "Although I''m getting around I''m struggling with my legs and back a little bit.

"I think the golf is great, but it''s just the pain of having to go around 18 holes really."

The 1991 Masters champion and 2006 Ryder Cup captain takes his place in a field also including Tom Watson, Gary Player, Sandy Lyle and Greg Norman at Royal Troon this weekend.

Meanwhile, Norman has revealed that he received a congratulatory message from golf legend Seve Ballesteros after his performance at The Open last week.

Norman said that the 51-year-old Spaniard, who retired from the game last year, commended him on the range of shots he used at Royal Birkdale.
