Nick Faldo''s Ryder Cup preparations took a turn for the bizarre last weekend when he announced that Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain has been offered a place on the backroom staff.
According to the Sun, the European captain told BBC presenter Gary Lineker during coverage of The Open Championship that McBrain has been asked to play a motivational role at the event in September.
The musician, who has been a member of the London heavy metal band since 1982, is said to be a keen golfer and will make a valuable addition to Europe''s Ryder Cup set-up, according to Faldo.
Wilson''s Padraig Harrington, the newly-crowned two-time Open champion, recently urged Faldo to include Yonex golfer Colin Montgomerie in his side for the tournament at Valhalla.
The Ryder Cup veteran has slipped to number 82 in the world after an indifferent season, but Harrington suggested that Montgomerie should be included as one of the captain''s picks.
Cobra player Ian Poulter is also hopeful of making the side after finishing as runner-up to Harrington at The Open.
