European Tour heads to Moscow

Several top European golfers travel to Moscow this week for the Russian Open at Le Meridien Country Club.

Per-Ulrik Johansson of Sweden returns to defend the title he won by six strokes last year, although no player has yet managed to claim back-to-back victories at the event since it started 12 years ago.

Also in the field is two-time Major winner John Daly, the big-hitting American who missed the cut at Royal Birkdale last week.

Daly will be looking to improve on his Open performance on his first visit to the Moscow event, although the presence of several other European Tour champions is likely to provide plenty of competition.

Austria''s Markus Brier, Robert-Jan Derksen of the Netherlands and Spaniard Fernando Gonzalo-Castano are three of the players in Russia with tournament-winning pedigree.

Daly won The Open at St Andrews in 1995 but played two miserable rounds at Royal Birkdale, with an 89 on Friday leaving him 29 over par for the first two days of the tournament.
