Ian Poulter will look to use his runner-up finish at The Open yesterday as a "springboard" to tournament victories and a place in the European Ryder Cup side.
A final round of 69 ensured the Cobra golfer finished two shots ahead of joint-third placed Greg Norman and Henrik Stenson at Royal Birkdale, with champion Padraig Harrington four shots in front on three over par.
Poulter, a "peacock in pink trews" yesterday according to the Independent, is still to win a Major but said that his strong performance on Merseyside at the weekend could give him the confidence to break his duck.
"There is plenty more in me and I know I can go better," the Hertfordshire-born player stated afterwards.
Poulter described his experience at Royal Birkdale, which included a round of 75 on Saturday, as a "rollercoaster", but added: "I don''t think I''ve enjoyed a week as much as I have this one."
Second place also gives Poulter a much-needed points boost ahead of the Ryder Cup, an event he is desperate to take part in after missing out in 2006.
