Ogilvy ready for links challenge

Geoff Ogilvy is hoping his low-key build up for this week''s Open Championship has left him better attuned to the challenges of links golf.

Very few events in the professional golf calendar take place on traditional links, which often leaves some of the world''s top players unprepared for the test of the Open Championship.

World number three Ogilvy has attempted to avoid that pitfall by arriving early in north-west England and playing on a variety of seaside courses before heading to Royal Birkdale.

Many of the game''s leading players opted to use the Scottish Open on a parkland course at Loch Lomond as preparation for the Major, but Ogilvy is confident he made the right decision.

"It''s perfect preparation for the Championship and it''s an enjoyable thing to do," said the 2006 US Open winner.

The Australian has enjoyed a profitable year on the PGA Tour, with his victory in the World Golf Championships - CA Championship helping him to amass more than $2.7 million (£1.35 million) in prize money.ADNFCR-1571-ID-18686522-ADNFCR
