McDowell triumphs at Loch Lomond

Graeme McDowell shot a final round of 68 to secure the Barclays Scottish Open title at Loch Lomond on Sunday.

The tournament looked to be heading for a tight finish until McDowell''s playing partner Simon Khan double-bogeyed the 12th and the Northern Irishman responded by beginning a run of three consecutive birdies at the next hole.

That put the Callaway professional in control and although he dropped a shot at the 17th, McDowell held on to finish on 13 under and claim the biggest win of his career.

James Kingston was two shots back in second place, with Richard Green, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Khan completing the top five.

Victory earned McDowell £500,000, but he was more pleased about the fact it effectively booked his place in Europe''s Ryder Cup team for September''s match at Valhalla.

"I put the Ryder Cup up there with winning majors. It''s something I have really, really desperately wanted," he said.

Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia, Robert Karlsson and Jimenez also look to have already secured their places on Nick Faldo''s team, with Justin Rose, Soren Hansen, Oliver Wilson, Henrik Stenson and Martin Kaymer well placed to join them.ADNFCR-1571-ID-18682065-ADNFCR
