Colin Montgomerie is confident his relationship with European Ryder Cup captain Nick Faldo will not adversely affect his chances of selection for September''s match against the USA at Valhalla.
The pair fell out during the Seve Trophy last year, even though a Great Britain and Ireland team led by Faldo achieved a five-point victory over Europe.
Montgomerie now looks likely to need a captain''s pick if he is to play in this year''s Ryder Cup, as he is only 13th in the European points list.
The Yonex professional is not sure whether he will be selected, but he told Setanta Sports News that Faldo will not allow their past differences to influence his decision.
"There will be no personalities involved in who he picks and he will pick the strongest players who he thinks will do the job at Valhalla come September," said the Scot.
Montgomerie''s record of 23.5 points from a possible 36 on his eight Ryder Cup appearances suggests he will be a strong candidate for selection.
However, with players of the calibre of Luke Donald, Padraig Harrington and Paul Casey also struggling to qualify, Faldo faces a tough decision. |
