Fisher dominates European Open

Ross Fisher produced the best performance of his professional career to win the European Open by seven shots at The London Golf Club in Kent on Sunday.

The Englishman shot four consecutive rounds under 70 to beat par by 20 strokes and secure his second European Tour victory - one which was accompanied by a cheque for €506,392 (£401,000).

Fisher achieved his runaway victory despite the tournament attracting one of the strongest fields in Europe so far this year.

TaylorMade professional Sergio Garcia finished second, with Graeme McDowell a further shot back in third.

South Africa''s David Frost claimed fourth place, and with it qualification for the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale later this month, while Soren Hansen completed the top five.

Fisher''s victory saw him climb into contention for Ryder Cup qualification, but several high-profile players did little to help their bids to make Nick Faldo''s team for the September clash at Valhalla.

Open champion Padraig Harrington finished 18 shots off the pace in 17th position, Yonex golfer Colin Montgomerie tied for 24th after a final round 77 and Ian Poulter could only manage 48th.ADNFCR-1571-ID-18670911-ADNFCR
