Former Masters champion Ian Woosnam continued his successful start to life on the Seniors Tour with a three-shot victory at the Pestovo Russian Seniors Open on Sunday.
The Welshman recorded a 12 under par total of 204 for his three rounds at Moscow''s Pestovo Golf and Yacht Club, which was good enough for him to secure the first prize of €71,432 (£56,500).
Paraguay''s Angel Franco clinched second place, a shot ahead of Scotland''s Bill Longmuir.
The win was Woosnam''s second in six outings on the Seniors Tour and enabled him to extend his lead at the head of the Order of Merit.
His closest rival is another former Ryder Cup captain Bernard Langer. However, the German is unlikely to challenge Woosnam for the Order of Merit title, as he plays most of his golf on the Champions Tour in the US.
The next event on the Tour is the Senior Open Championship, which will see Tom Watson defend his title at Royal Troon. |
