Monty admits he''d pick others for Ryder Cup

Colin Montgomerie has admitted that he cannot expect to be selected for the Ryder Cup on the basis of his reputation alone.

The Yonex professional has become the talisman of the European team by winning 23.5 points from a possible 36 during his eight appearances against the US.

However, a disappointing run of form has left him just 13th on the European points list and he needs some good finishes in the next few weeks if he is to clinch automatic selection for the September clash at Valhalla.

In the past few days former skipper Bernard Gallacher and Open champion Padraig Harrington have suggested Nick Faldo should make Montgomerie one of his captain''s picks, but the eight-time European Tour Order of Merit winner is not so sure.

He told Sky Sports News there are other players not currently in the qualification places who are more deserving of being Faldo''s selections.

"Right now you would have to pick Harrington and [Luke] Donald ahead of me if it was picked tomorrow," said Montgomerie.

Lee Westwood, Robert Karlsson and Miguel Angel Jimenez already appear to have done enough to qualify for the European team, but players of the quality of Justin Rose, Sergio Garcia and Henrik Stenson still have plenty to do to secure their places.ADNFCR-1571-ID-18667448-ADNFCR
