Justin Rose has welcomed the introduction of drug testing on the European Tour, although he is not expecting anyone to fall foul of the new regulations.
Testing will take place for the first time at this week''s European Open at the London Golf Club.
Reaction to the new checks has been mixed, but TaylorMade professional Rose insisted that the anti-doping regime is a necessary evil.
The UK''s top golfer told Sky Sports: "I think obviously golf''s such a huge game now, such a major game, it needs to fall into line with all the other sports that do have mandatory testing."
Rose added that his support for the changes does not mean he suspects any of his rivals are taking performance-enhancing drugs.
However, Cleveland professional David Howell said he was disappointed that golf''s administrators had decided to follow the example of other sports.
Howell told the Independent that drug taking is not part of the golf''s culture and that he would be "amazed" if anyone is caught. |
