Woods rules out Ryder Cup role

World number one Tiger Woods has confirmed that he will not have any involvement at this year''s Ryder Cup.

The 14-time Major winner was a certainty for Paul Azinger''s US team for the September clash at Valhalla until a serious knee injury brought his season to a premature end.

Several leading US players had suggested Nike professional Woods could have an important role as part of the non-playing staff, possibly as assistant to captain Azinger.

However, when quizzed about the idea, the world number one replied: "I''m not part of the team, unfortunately, I''m not on the team. It''s about those 12 guys, not about me. I''m not a part of that crew."

Woods has often struggled to reproduce his Major performances in the Ryder Cup and has won just 11 of a possible 25 points on his five appearances.

In the absence of Woods, much will be expected of world number two Phil Mickelson. However, the Callaway golfer has also won just 11 points from a possible 25 against Europe.ADNFCR-1571-ID-18665303-ADNFCR
