Hewitt looks to Woods for inspiration

Tennis star Lleyton Hewitt will attempt to emulate the heroics of Nike golfer Tiger Woods'' US Open performance when he takes on Roger Federer at Wimbledon today.

Hewitt faces the unenviable task of ending the Swiss player''s 62-game unbeaten run on grass while carrying a hip injury, but said that Woods'' triumph over his knee problem at Torrey Pines earlier this month will inspire him on the court.

Describing the world number one golfer as one of his "favourite sportsmen", Hewitt said that Woods'' 19-hole playoff victory over Rocco Mediate in California was "incredible".

"I don''t really know if anyone else would have been able to do it. Not only to play four rounds but then go out and play a fifth day," the 27-year-old Australian said.

A Wimbledon champion in 2002, Hewitt faces five-time winner Federer in the first game on Centre Court this afternoon.

He is the second top tennis player to declare admiration for Woods recently, with world number two Rafael Nadal praising the American''s "unbelievable determination" last week.
