Inbee Park became the youngest ever US Women''s Open champion yesterday, finishing four shots ahead of Sweden''s Helen Alfredsson in Minnesota.
The 19-year-old from South Korea hit a final round of 71 to close the tournament on nine under par and seal her maiden LPGA Tour victory at the Interlachen Country Club.
Annika Storenstam, the three-time champion, could only manage a three-over-par finish despite an eagle at the final hole, while world number one Lorena Ochoa was two shots behind on five over.
Commenting on her victory, Park said afterwards: "It''s really an honour and very special for me that I won the event ten years after I start playing.
"Everything happened so fast, it''s scary. I really tried to stay calm, but it was so exciting, I couldn''t do it."
The previous youngest winner of the tournament was Se Ri Pakas, also of South Korea, who clinched the title in 1998 at the age of 20.
Before her record-breaking win, Park finished ninth at the Kraft Nabisco Championship earlier this year and tied for fourth at the US Women''s Open in 2007.
