Michelle Wie has claimed that she feels like she is starting her golf career again after enduring a nightmare season last year.
Included in Time magazine''s 100 People who Shape Our World in 2006, the Honolulu-born player saw her form on the golf course evaporate in 2007 due to wrist injuries and several media controversies.
After completing her first term at Stanford University, the 18-year-old makes a relatively low-key return to the golf circuit at the US Women''s Open in Minnesota today, having come through a qualifying event.
Speaking at the Interlachen Country Club in Edina earlier this week, Wie looked back on her recent experiences and told reporters of her desire for a new beginning.
"I feel like I''m re-emerging as a new player, a new person," she said.
"This past year, I''ve been able to become a better player and stronger player than I ever was before."
Annika Sorenstam is making her final appearance in the US Women''s Open at Interlachen this week. The 37-year-old Swede, a ten-time Major winner and three-time champion at the event, will retire from competitive golf at the end of the year.
