Callaway golfer Ernie Els is in confident mood ahead of next month''s Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.
The Big Easy tied for 14th place at the US Open earlier this month and told his official website that he feels his performance at Torrey Pines was "a step forward".
Els won The Open at Muirfield in 2002 - the last of his three Major titles - and is one of the favourites to repeat that success this year following the withdrawal of Nike''s Tiger Woods.
Speaking about the US Open, the 38-year-old South African said: "I was happy with my swing and I was happy with the way I hit the ball - I can take a lot of positives from that."
The main reason for his failure to place higher at Torrey Pines was a series of missed putts which Els described as "frustrating", adding that he will be working on his short game before The Open begins on July 17th.
Els also revealed that he is to reunite with former caddie Ricci Roberts, ending his 18th-month partnership with JP Fitzgerald.
