Rocco Mediate has admitted to being surprised at the media attention he has received since last week''s playoff drama at Torrey Pines.
The Callaway golfer spoke to reporters in Michigan ahead of the Buick Open, with many questions inevitably focusing on his epic duel with Tiger Woods at the US Open and how it has propelled him into the golfing spotlight.
With Woods out injured for the season, Mediate is suddenly the star attraction on the PGA Tour. He said: "It''s been unbelievable. Never seen anything like it in my entire lifetime."
"I didn''t even win and it''s like this," he added with a smile.
The 45-year-old Pennsylvanian may have eventually lost out to Woods at Torrey Pines last week, but he is a former champion at Warwick Hills, having won the Buick Open in 2000.
Mediate admitted that he is unsure how his newfound celebrity status will affect his golf at the tournament this week, stating: "I don''t know what to expect truthfully."
The Tour veteran is just one of 11 former winners in the field at the Buick Open, with defending champion Brian Bateman and 2003 winner Jim Furyk also in contention.
