Woods confirms second knee operation

Nike golfer Tiger Woods has undergone knee surgery just over a week after his US Open triumph at Torrey Pines.

The world number one had an operation on his left knee for the fourth time in his career and second time this year, with surgeon Doctor Thomas Rosenberg stating that he was "pleased with the results".

Woods recently announced his withdrawal from the remainder of the golf season in order to focus on regaining his fitness, meaning he will miss next month''s Open at Royal Birkdale, as well as the PGA Championship in August and the following month''s Ryder Cup.

"I look forward to working hard at my rehabilitation over the coming months and returning to the PGA Tour healthy next year," the 32-year-old stated after the operation in Park City, Utah.

Rafael Nadal recently revealed that Woods has provided him with a major source of inspiration going into to this week''s Wimbledon championships.

After watching Woods'' dramatic playoff win at the US Open, the Spanish tennis star said that he was "the sportsman who I most admire" and praised his "unbelievable concentration and confidence".
