Cink ends win drought in Connecticut

Stewart Cink clinched his first PGA Tour win since 2004 with victory at the Travelers Championship yesterday.

A final round of 67 saw the Nike golfer finish 18 under par at TPC River Highlands – one shot ahead of Tommy Armour III and Ping''s Hunter Mahan, the defending champion.

Following a weather-disrupted final day in Connecticut, Heath Slocum finished two shots off the lead and Cleveland golfer Vijay Singh a further shot behind on 14 under par, with Brian Davis the best-placed Englishman on 11 under.

Speaking about finally winning his fifth PGA Tour title, Cink said afterwards: "I can''t believe it was that long since the last one.

"I feel like I''ve played well enough along the way to have won a couple."

The 35-year-old travelled to Connecticut after finishing in joint 14th place at the US Open in California. His last Tour victory came at the WGC-NEC Invitational in August 2004.
