New research has indicated that golf carts represent the latest danger threatening to turn golf courses into hazardous environments.
Following the discovery of alligators and live missiles on US courses in recent months, a study by the American Journal of Preventative Medicine has found that golf cart injuries are rising steadily.
According to Science Daily, the researchers discovered that the vehicles'' injury rate increased by 132 per cent from 1990 to 2006, with more than 150,000 golf cart injuries reported during this period.
Researcher Lara McKenzie said that children should be discouraged from using carts, while golf course managers should take responsibility for establishing clear safety policies at their venues.
"Given the large increase in golf cart-related injuries over the study period, greater efforts are needed to prevent these injuries," she stated.
Earlier this week, a man working on a golf course in Tennessee stumbled across a live military rocket. The item was destroyed by a bomb disposal team nearby and nobody was injured.
