Live missile discovered on US golf course

A man in Tennessee was surprised to find a live military rocket when working on a golf course this week.

Following recent incidents of alligators appearing at US golf venues, the discovery is the latest example of how a stroll around the greens can become unexpectedly hazardous.

According to the Associated Press, Freddie McGhee called a bomb disposal team after stumbling across the old-fashioned military ordinance at Hidden Valley Golf Course in Jackson.

The three-foot rocket is thought to date from the late 1960s or early 1970s and was taken to a nearby farm to be destroyed. Local authorities are now investigating how it came to be on the golf course.

In April, Dwight Monreal was attacked by an alligator while retrieving golf balls from a lake at the Tampa Palms Golf and Country Club in Florida.
